well... long time no visit here!
I've given some of my attention to check out QQzone. It is like a personal online space, similar to MSN Space where you can share your photos, blogs(diaries), shoutouts, friends, music with your QQ friends and other friends.
It's been a while since I started using. I found it very social. Sometimes time more socia than facebook! The center of QQ is the desktop application - chat!
it is great! however, i still love Facebook and Xiaonei where it is a different crowd and people use it differently!
You cannot center yourself around just one application to connect with your friends nowadays. I signed up as a QQ member (10RMB per month) to check all the features they offer to members, or so called VIP. Facebook is my international face and xiaonei & QQ can be my domestic face.
Thanks to the great inventions by technology and innovation!
I did a video to talk about Collective Intelligence! will redo it to make it better!
then I'll post the video here!
would love to share with you really soon!

Childhood Dreams & Career Direction
A friend of mine runs a weekly forum for students and young people at wudaokou.
This week the topic for this forum is Childhood Dreams & Career Direction.
I found myself reading that writing very enjoyably! so I'd like to share with you what is in the message!
Please do enjoy!
========
Topic: childhood dreams ﹠career directionDid you have a dream of your ideal job when you were little boy or little girl?Do you persist to it? And why?Are you doing the things in line with your dreams?Do you have a clear career direction? How do you find it?We expect you to share your answers and stories with us, hope the following article can give you some inspirations.Finding career directionWHEN: every Saturday 3 p.m.-5 p.m .WHERE: Rm A-208, the Main Building , Graduate School of People's Bank of China (its big and red) The guard know the Saturday's forum, so just walk in and find the room (based on class sched, the room may change)It's a 1-minute walk from "Wudaokou " subway station (next to KFC).From the Wudaokou subway Station, it is on the side of the track where KFC/Pizza Hut stands. From the street, it's on the same side of the street as KFC/Pizza Hut as well. Look for the reddish building. It 's also a 5-minute bike ride from Peking University &Tsinghua University. if you get lost or stopped just sms Frank at 135******00 What do you want to do as a career? It may surprise you to know people who have been working for decades cannot answer this question. But sometimes we’ve known all along what we want, it’s just that ambitions we had from an early age have become clouded over and forgotten.I was leaving work one evening a few years ago, and was chatting with another colleague, who was likewise going home.“Another day, another dollar?” I joked. He shook his head in despair, and wryly said that while he didn’t mind working for just a dollar, he would much rather have spent the day doing something more fulfilling.“Oh? You don’t like being a sales analyst?” I enquired. He shook his head. “No, and nor the other dozen or so things I’ve done before this either.” He summed up his working life to date by saying, “I’ve done this, and I’ve done that, but I still don’t know what I really want to do!”Although I could partially relate to his situation, his admission did surprise me. He would have been in his late forties, and while some people can take time to work out “what they want to do”, I’d have thought by his stage in his life he would have found a career that satisfied him.I remember in my final years at high school being asked to give thought to what I’d like to do for a living when I left school. I could think of nothing. Even for my first few years in the working world, I was just “taking” jobs, thinking that I’d have a career epiphany sooner or later. And preferably sooner, if possible.Whatever the case though, I thought I would find my desired career within “five or so years”, but certainly never be in the position of my former colleague, who was still trying to find his niche, almost 30 years after leaving school! So how do we find that desired career? While some people seemingly know their career ambitions from the time they are “knee high to a grasshopper”, why are others struggling to find the merest hint of career direction decades later?Ironically part of the answer could lie in those childhood dreams. When we are younger, we tend to be bolder in our thinking, and believe all manner of things are possible. It’s as we become older, and more cautious, that we start to discount our options and possibilities. We also tend to be more receptive to the comments, particularly the negative opinions, of those close to us.How many times would you have someone say, “What? You want to be a… photographer? Well that’s a very hard field to get into, you’d be better off choosing something else!”And so it goes. We hear disparaging thoughts like that, and begin to believe that we are wasting our time pursuing such “lofty” ambitions. Pretty soon we have narrowed the field down to a few “safe” career choices, and think we have made the “right” decision. But what happened to those people, who as children, wanted to be entrepreneurs, photographers, film producers, journalists, or whatever it was they set their hearts on? And by the way, I’m not talking about the people who had the movie, and rock star ambitions, although one or two would have succeeded I’m sure!I talking about the people who, at a young age, had a very clear, and shall we say, “down to earth”, career goal in their mind. Chances are they went on to do what they dreamed of. Why? Because they believed in their dream, and themselves, and were able to see passed the detracting comments of others. If they even listened to those comments in the first place! So what was your dream growing up, and why are you not doing that now, today? For my part I knew I wanted to be a free agent of some sort, working in a field that was somehow creative. I used to read the Tintin books (don’t laugh, now!) as a boy, and thought Tintin, as a freelance reporter, had a pretty cool job, and lifestyle. While Tintin embarked on all sorts of weird and wonderful adventures along the way, I realised early on, that aspect of his “career” may have been slightly far fetched, but being a freelance journalist, or writer, or content producer, wasn’t exactly that unrealistic an expectation. That dream however just seemed to get lost somewhere for many years. Perhaps when I was younger, and spoke of this future possible career, I didn’t word myself carefully enough, and took too seriously the jibes that I was setting myself up for failure by trying to be the next Tintin! It was a comic book, not real life after all, how you base any career dreams on something like that?!I wonder what my former colleague had dreamed of doing when he was a child? Despite declaring that he had “no idea” what he wanted to do, I’ll bet he did once. It’s just that he’s forgotten it, or let himself dismiss the thought long ago, after hearing a few ill-conceived and negative thoughts.Of course not all childhood career dreams are achievable. And this can sometimes be due to reasons beyond an individual’s control. An old school friend for years had wanted to be a commercial pilot. Again, not an especially unrealistic ambition, but eye tests revealed he was colour blind, which at the time, was enough to rule that out as a career option. And assuming a situation like that doesn’t apply to you, as a first step in finding yourself a new career direction, think back, and recall your childhood dreams and thoughts. And remember not all of these ambitions are necessarily naive or far fetched, and even at a young age, you may have known more about yourself than you thought!

MSN Groups, Microsoft Corporation Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052
Because we are dedicated to providing our customers with the most current and user friendly technology available today we made the difficult decision to close the MSN Groups service. This decision is part of an overall investment to update and re-align our online services with Windows Live. In the long term we believe that closing the service is the best way to continue to offer innovative and effective services that help you stay in touch with the people you care about. We plan to launch a new Groups service in the coming weeks, but unlike MSN Groups, Windows Live Groups will focus on offering a place for small groups to collaborate. Multiply is available now, making it your best option today for continuing to share and communicate together online.
We've listed some options and resources below to help you decide what to do with your group.
If you use save files to the MSN Communities web folders (also known as "My Web Sites on MSN" or the web folder "My Groups"), these services are part of MSN Groups and will therefore will also be closed on February 21, 2009. We recommend that if you store files online using MSN Communities web folders that you back up these files locally, then upload them to another online storage service such as Windows Live SkyDrive. For more details on how to find and move files saved to your web folders, visit the MSN Groups Resource Center.
We have sent this letter to each MSN Groups user, whether member or manager. If you are:
Between today and February 21, 2009 the MSN Groups service will remain the same as it is now. We will remove the option to add more storage to your group but other features will remain until the service is shut down and you can use it the same way you do today until the date of closure.
You probably have more questions, and that's why we created a website to address them. Please visit theMSN Groups Resource Center at any time for the most up to date answers to common questions, information about migrating your group to Multiply, contact information for our support staff, and important dates.

Very Interesting Q&A about China
Q: Do Chinese eat dogs?
A: Yes. And cats. Especially on our "Thanks receiving" day. Besides, turkeys are our favorite pets. In China only the most uneducated eat turkeys.
Q: China is becoming strong. Does your government want to take over the world?
A: Yes, absolutely. As soon as we become powerful, we will invade Iraq and Afghanistan.
Q: Why doesn't your government give Tibet back to its monks?
A: Because the monks want to help the Seminoles take back Florida.
Q: Are the products made in China very cheap?
A: Yes. Were we using slaves, the price would be even cheaper.
Q: You have 1.4 billion people. Now what do you want to do with it?
A: Find a new planet. Kill the native people there, and move in.
while facebook is hyped, google continues its hype outside US
is this statement true?
I guess so!
Google continues to expand it's operation overseas and over 50% of the revenue generated by Google are from overseas.
I spotted an MSN status as "Dreaming for Googleplex... Mountain View,CA"
I mentioned to some of my friends to try apply jobs at Google but they gave a "virtual face" - "duh". Don't talk about it... it's impossible for me (them) to get in, seemingly!
It is definitely not the case. I still remember when Youtube recruiter knocked on my door one day via email and I seriously thought that might be a spam. Then I asked my friends who are in Google to check if that person exists and she does. Much later, I realised it was my good friend their who brought us to see Chad referred me and got me the chance to get my door knocked on.

Oracle Open World 2008
another great conference in SF...
my friends and ex-coworkers did a great job and demonstrated their work in the annual party for Oracle employees and its partners.
over 30 years, the corporation has come a long way...
till today, the enterprise applications continue to evolve and get influenced by the consumer markets.
communications have always been one of the most voiced problems and issues in a large organization, especially distributed organizations.
enterprise blogging can definitely help employees in a large enterprise to empower the employees to communicate with each other and spark, especially in technology industries where ideas are key. (people are the biggest asset of a technology company and the ideas from people matter. )
check out the blogs.oracle.com for the blog facing the public by their over 80,000 employees across the world.
here is an example of the social graph that takes place in an event of such a large organization. it's really complicated, I have to say.
http://blogs.oracle.com/videoblog/2008/09/oracle_openworld_2008_untitled_631.html
if you are from a large organization and deals with massive amount of communications and collaboration, you might want to try out enterprise blogging... it can definitely help you.

Shanghai Shanghai Shanghai
Lately I visited Xiaoneil.com more than Facebook, primarily because it is so slow to load here in China... once in a while, it could be magically fast to browse through the facebook site. I love the new UI and I found it very easy and makes a lot of sense.
I heard many people still prefers the older version... well... maybe because I like to change and prefers new stuff... nevertheless, the new facebook UI is just so nice and simple... yes... come to think of the new UI, xiaonei also imitated the new facebooke experience and lauched the new xiaonei.com, claiming that the new change is because of "YOU" - the xiaonei users...
I wonder what it really means... the change... even facebook did not claim that... did it?
well... there is an exhibition tour starting this week on the Wenzhou University Campus. we will participate in the exhibition and we've prepared lots of goodies to give out to engage the students..
good luck!
why the title is shanghai? well... one of our staff is named shanghai. i was in shanghai on tuesday.
a friend of mine started her short stay in shanghai and another friend is not based in shanghai due to his work. lots of people are moving around...=) after all, in this big world, we just know so many people... and our world is just that big... it's undefined but just that big..=p

Teaching English here
Finally the first session of English learning kicked off last night. There were about 10 students showed up for the session. I was really glad that they came and talked to me about their interests in learning English. 8 out of 10 are girls and the other two guys are people that I've met before.
All of them are young, born in 87-90.
Some of them seemed very confident in speaking English, which was great!
we had three parts in the first session.
1. Self-introduction
2. Pronunciation
3. Greetings
It was a good start and we will have another session this coming Monday. I might go to Shanghai again to talk to our partners on our project. Hopefully i will not have to change the textbook session to another slot.
most of them want to learn speaking and reading. three of them expressed their interests in writing. i'll help them as much as I can while I am here in Wenzhou. I am not paid for all these hope they can truly take advantage of this opportunities. For me, I just want to make a few more friends and get to know they the students here are doing in their university years.
Good luck to their learning and my sharing.

teaching & learning
A very good friend of mine who I got to know two months ago is working and learning with me right now.
I guess i've given him some hard time when it comes to fix certain problems. I hope that we can both learn together... i am learning how to better teach or rather coach.
Listening is so important and speech is, on the other hand, the most important. I need to express myself clearly and there are so many ways to convey the same message to achieve better results. Teaching is an art and learning is an art, too. I guess I've picked up little on the latter and there are still lots to be picked up.
My aunt-in-law phoned my yesterday and talked to me about not going back to school this semester... my cousin fell ill badly a few years ago and he had to take leave of absence from school for almost two years and he just started his high school in IM. If not, he should have gone to university already, which I have not completed yet. =p
I know what I am doing here in wenzhou and things are different every single day. it might appear boring... i don't find it boring at all lately... the students are coming back to school and it's getting crowded here in no time. over 65,000 students in this university town are crowding around like ants soon! fight for food, fight for boys/girls, compete with appearance and coolness.
oh man, lots to update later.
have fun!

Beijing Olympics is Over
Great 16 days!
I wish i could be in the stadium to watch the Olympic athletes to compete and pursue their dreams in Beijing.
I love two songs from the Beijing Olympics.
The theme song You and Me,
and Beijing Welcomes You!
I love the melody and rhythms of the song and find the lyrics of both songs are very simple and very meaningful. Many many great celebrity singers sang in the beijing welcomes you song.
beiijing hua ying ni
xiang yi yue gang dong ni
rang wo men dou jia you to chao yue zi ji
beijing huan ying ni
you meng xiang shui dou liao bu qi
you yong qi jiu hui you qi ji
*(Chinese Pinyin)
Somehow I find the closing ceremony not as great as the opening... though it was fantastic... perhaps I watched the one without narration online... seems it was so quiet and did not know what was going on. Maybe the narration was too boring to catch my attention.
Now looking forward to 2012. I've talked to some friends about going to visit London in 2012 and enjoy the Olympics again there!
I was born in the Olympic year... I fell in love with the Olympics almost at the first sight... I remember very clearly that I have watched all the games in 1988 (if i could still remember), 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 and now 2008. 2008 is also a very special year to me...
you and me
from one world
we are family
travel dream
a thousand miles
meeting in beijing
come together
put your hands in mine
you and me
from one world
we are family

Go Beijing Olympics!
finally I got to watch the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony at my friends place last night...
There weren't many songs... somehow, I expected to listen to more singing than just instrumental and dances...
The theme was great... very Chinese... but Dir. Zhang has done a good job in squeezing the 5000 year history in the 2-3 hour programs at the opening ceremony... the great four inventions....
the Chinese volume (roll) has planted seeds deeply in the heart of the audience in China and from the rest of the world... fantastic! really awesome!
Ning LI has done such a fabulous job 'flying and walking' around the bird nest stadium and finally lit up the Olympic Fire... We watched a special program introducing the story about Li's though training and exercise behind the few minute world-wide attention.
I thnk what really impressed me was the painting... very focused... it was so nicely done in every single chapter of the programs. the most impressive program, i think, was "movable type“ performance... nice! pretty!

the new facebook
Facebook has officially moved to the new facebook.
I do like the new interface a lot...
compared to the one that I have been with for two years, I can only say that I am used to it... I would not say I liked it a lot. The old design was very good compared to other social networking sites.
I think i like the new design... it makes more sense to have the navigation on the right...
the drop-down lists are just easy to use. (is that a new feature there?)
seems there is also more advertising space for them.
it is important... we want facebook to survive! =) 37.5 million users for facebook now.
wow... almost doubled the number of residents in Beijing.
How's 51.com?
or xiaonei?
my friend asked a question:
"when is xiaonei going to release their (copied) new UI?"
let us see how fast xiaonei can back-engineer the few facebook.
Days in Wenzhou
I have been in Wenzhou for the past one month, during which I spent 6 days back in Singapore to work on the startup!
Yes... we were seeking funding in Singapore.
I thought it might be easier to get some funding in Singapore, especially seed funding. However, we went to the wrong group of people. We thought that we should just talk to VCs directly and would see if we can get them excited and make an offer to us.
It's not that easy! we did not actually meet VCs in Singapore. We talked to our dear school. We talked to many people who are active in the entrepreneurs community and understand the funding scene. The lessons we learned is that it's easy to get micro-funding in Singapore to jump start the company and the development of prototypes.
I have not met any VC in Singapore yet. I don't want set my perception toward that industry yet. I know that Asian are generally more conservative. We are less risky than the Westerners. Perhaps, that's why the top VCs are from the US then followed by Europe. Anyway, that's a side note for the 6 days in Singapore.
On the other hand, things are different here in Wenzhou. I came back on July 14th to meet an investor introduced by our CEO's buddie. If you want to classify these group of investors we have met, they more belong to the angel investor group. They invest in people and followed by the project. The people have to be very trusted and capable. The project ought to be exciting and rewarding. Bai talked to the first investor I met, Li, the last three days of my stay in Singapore. We met him on July 14th evening. Frank flew in from Beijing. We signed the contract on July 15th. There came the seed fund investment in the game company. In the following days, we met two other individual investors as well. They were all new to the game industry but through connections. We've built the trusted relationship with them. Even though they don't really know much about the online game industry, they know from the KLSi experience that things will likely work out.
Wenzhou is a very wealthy place. There are lots of business people who have made there millions and billions and even trillions of money in the past years. They have been investing in the real estate market as a group. They made lots from there. IT industry is more marginal than real estate. More importantly, it's quick investment and quick return compared to real estate.
To be honest, there is really no technology company in Wenzhou. most companies are still in the manufacturing business. over 1000 small factories have closed down in 2007 because of the low currency exchange rate with US dolloars. Most contracts were signed before 2007 when the exchange rate was high. Due to the decreasing rate, factories are losing money very single day. The costs have gone up by a lot in the past years. The losses are in magnitude of a very 100k per day sometimes.
US economy is not doing well. It has directly affected the manufacturing business in China. hard-core manufacturers can no longer make much money nowadays. it's time to make a change, transition to a different model. The model should center around IP and technology. There is no technology park in wenzhou yet, which means the technology the manufacutures in touch with are not very localized and can no longer fit them. The world is driven by technology. How can such a wealthy place have no technology?
They might have the most advanced production line... they might have the most advanced technology to back-engineer a pair of shoes or a set of clothes. These are important. Nevertheless, technology do not just exist in the key manufacturing process but the entire value chain, including business process and the basic knowledge about technology. If you come to wenzhou and get a name card from someone. basically, they put phone number and QQ number on it. there is no email and no sign of "www". For the rare ones who do use email, it's either @qq.com or @163.com or @***.com/com.cn/cn. Here I am talking about business owners and top executives of local companies. They can be understood because lots of them had very little education when they were young.
How about the students in Wenzhou then? do they use email?
I've met quite a number of students. QQ is the key communication tool for them. i have to praise QQ for its success. QQ is part of the gen Y's life. Whenever they are online, QQ is always the first application to be launched, followed by a browser or a game client. The features of QQ are so powerful that it is just a one-stop center for all - IM, Files, space, albums, music, movies, games... whatever...
Thus many business are conducted via QQ, such as client services, customer servcies and online assistance. Oh... not to forget the mobile technology... every single student has a mobile phone.
QQ and mobile phone means all technolgoy to them? i don't know whether it's their view or not.
To me, these two are parts of my life with technology...
So there are lots of opportunities in Wenzhou, a place would definitley leapfrog to get ahead of other less wealthy cities in China. Our mission is to expose and offer them the access to understand about the IT industry!

xiaonei releases its platform strategy
On July 8, Xiaonei will have a Strategy Press Conference at Kanpu (Wokers' Stadium South Gate). Here is the link http://2008.xiaonei.com/xnApi.do (in Chinese) The executives of Pacific Oak, CSDN and 3rd-party companies (partners, I assume) and application developers. Of course, media will be welcomed. Xiaonei will talk about its platform development and strategy. Stay tuned for more Chinese SNS platform. How much would it be different from Facebook or Google connect. I guess most of us have anticipated the event on July 8th, but what we were not sure was the timing. Hope to hear from them on how the platform should be different in China. looking forward to it.

My Last Organizing BASE before heading for Singapore in July
Last night we had our 6th event of BASE networking session! It went great!
We did not have speakers nor presenters last night but we were not too concerned about it. It would be fantastic if we were to have some great people talking to us. However, once in a while, we might just want to sit and talk to each other instead of listening to others talking to a group of people. (do you agree?)
We went back to the format of the very first time when we started BASE in March. Everyone introduced themselves one by one... (to break the ice) we had a small rounds of "shout-outs". Frank introduced Adam Smith from Xobni.com. He was here for holidays and he should be on the plane to Japan right now. Wish a safe and pleasant journey to Adam. Wish I knew he was in town earlier.. I got a bit of time to bring him around I guess. He told us he had hard time getting round speaking no Chinese. Glad that he made it! Next time, drop us an email. We have tons of friends who can help you in many ways!
Jennifer sent her colleagues to BASE last time to talk about their business plan competition. It's a pretty good way for a Chinese startup to get some initial funding without going through the tough Angel and VC funding hunt. Well, it takes a lot of luck to meet the right angel or VC. For you information about the business plan competition, you can visit the website here.
Erik was here and he's working on his gaming startup right now and he got accepted into Tsinghua MBA program. Congratulations to him! He's looking for a CTO right now to work with him on his startup!
Abe has finally secured his researcher position in Tsinghua Medical School! that's great! Congratulations to you!
Gina, Long time no see! Glad that you are a journalists now at Beijing Today. It is an English newspaper! maybe you can find her news articles there!
Ralf's girl friend has left her IT company and she's having her first day at a marketing consulting firm. wow, it's so exciting for her. All the best!
Ralf would take over me to run the BASE event and please give him support! He wants to do something but he needs lots of guidance. Frank, Darius, Resh, David De, please give your support to him! thanks!
My business partner, Lao Bai joined us at the networking session there too! Unfortunately, he speaks no English and I was helping him translate a little bit. Glad that he could come and see how things are like in Beijing! There is absolutely no such networking in Wenzhou.
I was really busy running around and talking to people. The very first time at BASE, I forgot to take pictures there! What a pity! it would be a group of great pictures! maybe I should organize a farewell party session at the beginning of July (not the second Thursday of the month) but rather any day then!
cool! i'll do that!

the LinkedIn Presbyter (mascot?)
was trying to check out the linkedin invitation a friend sent to me.
but it shows the page below (they are upgrading the system right now.
at the first sight, it was just a notification. Then the linkedin man caught my attention.
it looks like someone. what do you think? any idea on your side?
I call it the Linkedin Presbyter, so much like Reid Hoffman, the founding CEO of linkedin.
Disagree with me? well, take a closer look. ^^
The Presbyter looks so approachable and caring.

Nation-wide Mourning for May 12 China Earthquake Including the monochromic Internet
Besides, the people in China are mourning for the victims by not involving in any entertainment activities of any sort, wearing dark color dresses etc.. The Chinese internet seems synchronously followed the same monochromic look on their sites.
I've checked most of the frequently visited Chinese websites of mine. They all presented the similar monochrome color- the black & white theme to show their condolences and sympathy to the victims in the catastrophic earthquake took place on May 12 2:28pm (GMT +8) with its epicenter at Wenchuan, Eastern Sichuan, China.
Here are some examples.

Fake McDonald's Career page?
I was browsing my friends blog just now and saw there was an ad for McDonald's part time jobs.
[ad image]

I clicked on it... to see what it is about? I never worked in McD. don't think i am gonna work there. just out of curiosity, i clicked on it.
the following page showed up. It looks like it's from McD but... I just feel that it's might be a mock to collect info of thousands... who knows...
[page image]

I typed www.mcdonalds.com.sg ... that one works... i visited before, so there is no problem there.
checked the www.mcdonalds.com.sg/recruitment it showed something sensible...
then i clicked on "apply now"...
what is it about?
the same URL that the ad linked to http://mcdsg.workstarglobal.com/
Thus, the ad should be REAL then. Thank Goodness!
Gosh! Why cannot McD Sg just set up something on their site instead of rerouting to other URL that appears so not trusting.
well... maybe I am to suspicious about the real identity of a site an Google ad links to.
Can all Google Ads be trusted?

Churchill Club: Top 10 Tech trends debate
I think you might be wondering once in a while...
"What's new?"
"How the market is like in 1 year, 2 years, 5 years or even 10, 20, 30 years?"
"What's gonna make it big in the near future?"
"What are the hot spots in tech?"
...
etc.
Here is a list that you can think about and see whether they click with your thoughts.
my thoughts are:
1. mobile devices gonna be hot in the techie community
a. iPhone - applications, distribution channels, 3G and its related peripheral markets
b. phone OS - designed for techies and tech-savvy users to play around and customize their own phones... so which phone manufacturer will produce mobile phones that allows the geeks to crash their phone. Nokia?
c. mobile services... data plans (teleco), mobile widgets, mobile shopping... text messages in US
2. Clean Tech... alternative energy... this hype will never die off. I guess you will see some applicable alternative energy technology in the market in 2009 and 2010. lots of initiatives started in around 2006 and hope to see some results soon. at least pioneering initiatives.
Who's gonna lead? Technology will be the US but the practitioners will be China and European countries because of their strong government support and subsidies.
3. I feel strongly that there is gonna be some breakthrough in bio-tech in curing and treatment in 2009. maybe something for Aids will be in the market that cheap enough (relatively) for people to purchase.
4. enterprise 2.0 starting end of 2008 - 2010... it's gonna be huge... many enterprises are waking up from their hibernation after their first four season in the 1.0 world. Yes.. the spring is coming and it's time to wake up and get some fresh food.
Baidu cutomized its logo for China Earthquake
My coworker loaded Baidu.com page as his home page on his Firefox browser (Chinese Simplified). I saw the logo appeared weird and it was black and white and i thought it was for something.
Yes... then I tried on my browser...
typed: baidu.com
(loading page)
(paged loaded)
then, this logo came out!
it is to announce or call for help or memorize for the Sichuan earthquake took place on May 12 at 2:28pm.
Why does not Google do something about its logo?
Facebook "network" concept vanishes?
I think it was one month ago. Facebook removed its "network" tab on it's home page for users.
I do like the network page and it shows interesting stuff within the network.
I could still access it if I go to my Profile and click on the networks to view the page.
Yesterday (May 14, 2008) I discovered that there are no long hyperlinks for the networks on my profile.
I tried typing "http://www.facebook.com/networks.php" it rerouted to "http://www.facebook.com/networks/networks.php" where you are still able to find a way to access to the network page (of your networks). However, you need to search your networks.
Once you are on the page (like the Silicon Valley, CA one), you would see such notification box, announcing "Network Page will be discontinued soon"
Remember I met Ben, from Mobile Monday. We were talking about some "Dark Ages" of Internet due to privacy issues. Does this mean that Facebook has notified the advent of "dark ages" and trying to prevent it from happening? well... if it is really coming, it can only be delayed but not avoided.
Have not found anything announced over the online media about discontinuing the network page from Facebook. Hope they can announce their intention and reasons why they are doing this.
Thanks to Piet, we had an awesome leisure gathering at Centro at Kerry Center, Beijing, China.
Have a safe trip back to Netherlands and catch up with you soon!

China earthquake on twitter May 13
Here are some more tweets tracking on China earthquake.
download the pdf file here.
over 10,000 injuries and deaths have been reported.
after over 40 hours, finally the rescue team managed to reach the epicenter of this earthquake...
feel so sorry and sad for the people.
I saw a beggar walking by after my lunch and he looked like a real homeless person. After the Tsinghua South gate (the road leads to the gate actually) there is a gabbage can next to the steps of the cross-over bridge. He stopped and started digging (some food, I guess). I have a bag of packed (left-over) food. Well, they are still fresh as we just finished eating at Quanjude.
He seemed disappointed as he could not find anything eatable. Then, I passed one package of the food to him. Then he went to the roadside and started eating, bending his body and standing. Looks so pathetic.
Helping the people suffering from the earthquake damages is far and mos of the time we feel so powerless in such situation. As a person, there is so little we can do. At this moment, it is the team work, leaving no-one behind spirit will motivate more and more people to stay strong and get ready to rebuild their life. I know it's tough. The world is trying to help. It will take a couple of years to get recovered from such large-scaled disaster. Hope for the best!

China earthquak on twitter
I followed last night from 8pm till now
tracked 'earthquake' and 'chengdu'
gosh... over 1600 lines.
here is the archive of the tracking...
CCTV Special Broadcasting on Sichuan Wenchuan Earthquake
cctv has reported that the number of deaths has reached 8533 with time stamped at 11:40pm.
The department of transportation and police is trying to keep the major road access smooth to allow first aids and goods to be transported to Sichuan province. The entire country is trying to help the people in the disaster area.
my condolences to all the people who died in this unexpected disaster and their family members.
so the info of the earthquake is May 12 14:28pm (GMT+8) of magnitude 7.8.
USGS' first hand info was very accurate back then!
updated: the tremor depth was only about 29 km below surface. compared to the 1976 tangshan disastrous earthquake of a similar magnitude, that depth was 11 km and over 242,000 of people died in the tangshan earthquake.
Premier Wen has already arrived at Sichuan to work on relief work with officials. He reached Sichuan about 7:18pm in the evening May 12.
