OpenSocial, Ops! Here comes OpenSocket

Thanks to Woonzai's sharing on Facebook, here is something really interesting.
Maybe you have heard of tons of news about Google and its 'new' initiative on the social networking sites- yes, it's OpenSocial. It creates a standard for APIs to be universally applicable on many social networking sites, like Ning, Friendster, Hi-5 etc.
Strangely this was announced after Google's unsuccessful bite on the Facebook pie. I have no idea whether it was a defense or an attack move. Anyway, the story about OpenSocial can be GOOGLED and a lot of stories will pop up. What was interesting was that Facebook was not part of the OpenSocial gang. If this is the first time you heard of OpenSocial and you know Facebook pretty well, you might think "why is not Facebook part of it?"

I don't know! There must be stories behind. Hope these stories will be revealed soon!

Nonetheless, what's more interesting here is that OpenSocket is trying to pull OpenSocial in facebook. What they say: it allows you to run OpenSocial gadgets within Facebook!

That was brilliant!

Since OpenSocial is open to all... Facebook can definitely make full use of the great 'platform' and add values to its users on its own platform!

My friend said OpenSocial might backfire itself. In my opinion, if the true intention of OpenSocial was to show colors to FB, then it can be considered backfiring. Or it might possibly reveal the true intention of Google in getting a bite on the FB pie. Yes, right now Facebook is working on OpenSocket to let its users involved in the OpenSocial. In other words, in the Chinese way of thinking: when I made an offer and treated you nicely, you did not appreciate and grab the opportunity. Now I have to show you some colors and let you come to me and 'beg' for it (whatever in the context). that was also a brilliant strategy play!

really cool stuff!
